Dr. Jogeir Toppe
Fishery Industry Officer at FAO

Jogeir Toppe is a Fishery Industry Officer at the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations. His responsibilities have particular focus on the role fish plays, or could play, in reducing levels of food insecurity and malnutrition. This includes activities to reduce post-harvest losses and improve quality and value of the limited resources, with a focus on low cost but high impact solutions.

Toppe is also working on activities looking at the risks and benefits of fish consumption, and was in charge of the joint FAO/WHO Expert Consultation on the Risks and Benefits of Fish Consumption. He is also involved in the more recent work on microplastics in seafood.

Prior to joining FAO he worked as a scientist focusing on aquaculture feed development and improved use of waste from fish processing.
