Mario Aguilar Sánchez has been working in the industry for more than 18 years. He is a former Minister Counselor on Fisheries Matters at the Mexican Embassy in the USA, where he worked as CONAPESCA Representative in Washington.
He was responsible for coordinating and directly leading, within the fisheries framework, the Mexican case against the USA in the World Trade Organization regarding the tuna embargo. Mexico obtained the WTO ruling in its favor. He previously worked in the design and instrumentation of commercial and environmental agreements.
He is highly experienced in fishing regulations in both regional and international levels, as well as in forums such as that of the FAO and the IATTC, among other fishery bodies.
Mr. Aguilar holds a Law Degree from the National Autonomous University of Mexico, and obtained a postgraduate from the University of Georgetown in Washington. He is an expert in Marine Law and Fishing Rights.
